Barak Valley registers 285 positive cases on Monday
August 8: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 285 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 194 positive cases (It was 76 on Sunday)
- Karimganj: 45 positive cases
- Hailakandi: 46 positive cases (It was 12 on Sunday)
On Monday, 194 persons tested COVID-19 positive in Cachar district. 17 persons were detected positive as per the results of the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test, whereas 178 of them were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). This was disclosed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Monday evening. Mr. Choudhury further stated that the district health department has now intensified Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) in order to stop community spread of the virus. More than 2600 rapid tests were done on Monday, out of which 194 tested positive.
On Monday, 46 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 1357. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 46 positive cases detected on Monday, 40 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Altogether 498 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 945 persons on being cured have been released from hospitals.The number of active cases in the district is currently 358.
Karimganj district registered 45 new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday. Further, 6 patients were discharged from various parts of the districts. The health department has appealed to people to come voluntarily for testing.
Apart from the valley, a total of 2900 persons tested positive in Assam on Monday, thereby taking the state tally to 61,737. As of now, there are 17,997 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1261 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 43,586 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 6 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 151.
India’s COVID-19 tally reached 22,15,075 today, with 62,064 cases being reported in a day. Recoveries rose to 15,35,743 according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total number of deaths from Covid-19 rose to 44,386 after 1,007 deaths were reported in last 24 hours. This is the fourth consecutive day that the COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 60,000. India had crossed the 20-lakh mark on Friday. The COVID-19 count includes 6,34,945 active cases and 15,35,743 cured/discharged/migrated patients.
