Barak Valley registers 135 positive cases on Tuesday; 61 cured & discharged

July 28: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 135 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 131 positive cases. Apart from this, 61 patients were cured and discharged from across the valley on Tuesday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 90 positive cases (It was 94 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 26 positive cases (It was 22 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 19 positive cases (It was 15 on Monday)

With 90 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Tuesday, Cachar recorded a total of 1405 cases of coronavirus as of now. MLA Sonai and Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Aminul Haque Choudhury and his driver were confirmed positive on Tuesday after Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was done. He exhibited Influenza Like Illness (ILI) symptoms and on Tuesday a team of health workers were sent to do RAT. However, his family members tested negative. The Deputy Speaker has been admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). As per the 1st slot, 30 persons were tested positive in Cachar district on Tuesday. As per the 2nd slot, 5 persons from Cachar were detected as COVID-19 positive. 15 positive cases were detected as per the 3rd slot of RTPCR Test. The rest were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

Bimal Paul (78) from Central Road, Silchar who was admitted at SMCH after he was detected corona positive died on Tuesday afternoon. His case has been sent to State Level Death Audit Board to ascertain whether the death has resulted solely due to COVID or due to co-morbidity.

On Tuesday, 19 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 861. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 19 positive cases on Tuesday, seven have been detected under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Two employees of State Bank of India and Allahabad Bank, Hailakandi branch, tested positive while a police personnel of Police Reserve was found positive. Altogether 95 cases have been found positive under RAT so far. 30 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Tuesday, taking the total number of persons released to 717. The number of active cases in the district is presently 141.

Karimganj district recorded 26 COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday, out of which 22 of them are from Rail Colony. Till now, 595 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj. 06 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Tuesday, taking the total number of persons released to 407. At present, there are 106 active cases. The district has recorded a total of 3 deaths till now.

Apart from the valley, a total of 1371 persons tested positive in Assam on Tuesday, thereby taking the state tally to 34,947. As of now, there are 8238 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1216 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 26,618 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 2 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 88. The recovery rate in Assam has gone upto 76.2 percent.

While India’s total tally for Covid-19 cases breached 15 lakh mark on Tuesday, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi remained worst hit despite some decline in fresh coronavirus cases in these states.
