Barak Valley registers 129 corona positive cases & 2 deaths on Friday

July 24: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tursday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 129 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, a total of 54 patients were discharged from the three districts of the Valley on Friday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 111 positive cases
  • Karimganj: 11 positive cases
  • Hailakandi: 07 positive cases

With 111 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Friday, Cachar recorded a total of 1139 cases of coronavirus as of now.  At present, 400 patients were discharged from across the district. There are 739 active cases as of now. Out of the 94 positive cases, 4 employees of the office of Superintendent of Police, Cachar were tested positive. A few others were found positive through contact tracing. Again, some patients of the Gynecology Ward of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) were also infected by coronavirus on Friday. Further, 2 security guards of Silchar Goldighi Mall were found coronavirus positive.

Further, a 06 days old baby of of one Sima Munda tested positive on Friday. Though the baby was delivered at SMCH, however, the mother is a resident of Panchgram in Hailakandi. Another child of 5 years age was also infected during the day. He belongs to Katirail in Cachar. Two persons from SMB Silchar, Madhusudhan Suklabaidya (50) and Sahalom Barbhuiya (32) were tested positive under ATSP.

It needs mention here that Karimganj district recorded death of two COVID-19 patients. The deceased were identified as Abdul Halim Laskar (75) and Smt Alekjan Bibi (55). As of now, 520 corona positive cases were reported from Karimganj, out of which, 103 are active. The district has recorded a total of 3 deaths till now.

Seven fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Thursday, taking the total tally to 785. 38 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Friday, taking the total number of persons released to 606. The number of active cases in the district is presently 177. Two COVID-19 positive patients viz., Mangoli Rani Das, 53, and Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Apart from the valley, a total of 1130 persons tested positive in Assam on Friday, thereby taking the state tally to 29,921. As of now, there are 9143 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1062 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 21,761 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 6 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 76.

India recorded the highest single-day spike of 49,310 cases and 740 deaths today. So far, India has recorded 13,34,309 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 31,353 deaths.

India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 63.5 percent. Globally, there have been over 1.55 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 6.32 lakh people have died so far.
