DC Jalli flags off rice distribution under ‘Garib Kalyan Programme’ in Sonai constituency

June 23: There are many who are not in possession of any ration cards and hence the government has launched a programme to provide food grains even to these people. It is for these beneficiaries that the ‘Garib Kalyan Programme’ was launched. On Monday, Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli attended one such function at Ramdulal Roy Higher Secondary School under Sonai constituency where she flagged off distribution programme of rice. DC Jalli also distributed rice among the poor and distressed families at Kachudaram GP and Sundari GP who do not possess ration cards.

It is pertinent to mention here that those people without NFSA cards were given rice under ‘Garib Kalyan Programme’.Rice was distributed to 200 poor families of Kachudaram GP. Distribution of rice was also carried out in various other circles of the district.

While interacting with the media, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, “The rice would be distributed among about 30,000 helpless and poor families without ration cards in the district. Due to lockdown, people without ration card were paid Rs.1000 initially. Now, rice is being distributed directly to the distressed families. Distribution of rice has already started in many block areas.People will definitely be benefited by this scheme during this pandemic.” DC Jalli also mentioned that she has come to this place to check whether rice is being distributed properly or not. She further informed that those whose names were not enlisted will also be given rice very soon.

Later during the day, DC Jalli also inspected the premises of the school and interacted with school officials as well. She also visited eroded areas of Sundari GP on foot to inspect the condition of the river banks and interacted with the villagers on flood control schemes to be taken up.
