Himanta visits GMCH & Regional Dental College to check containment measures being taken
May 9: A PG student at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) has tested COVID positive on Thursday night. He was in-charge of screening of patients for COVID-19 at GMCH. The hospital was then closed for new patients for next few days. The 1st & 5th hostel of GMCH was declared as a containment zone. A total of 386 persons were quarantined after contact tracing of this PG student. On Saturday, state Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the PG Hostel, GMCH to meet residents & check on containment measures being taken there.
Apart from this, One student of Regional Dental College, Kamrup Metro has tested COVID-19 positive on Friday night. The girl who tested positive is a second-year postgraduate student at the Regional Dental College. She was a resident of Girls Hostel of the Dental College. An order, issued on Saturday by Kamrup Metro deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu, said “in the interest of maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus” in the area, the “entire girls hostel campus” has been declared as a “containment zone”.
The Health Minister on Friday midnight rushed to the Girls Hostel of Regional Dental College, Guwahati. He met the girl who tested positive and assured her best care. He further requested all others of the hostel not to panic and maintain social distancing norms. On Saturday again, Himanta Biswa Sarma went to Regional Dental College Girls Hostel to enquire about resident doctors.
