Hailakandi municipality puts in place numbering arrangement for opening shops during lockdown

May 6: To ensure smooth and hassle-free opening of shops within the municipal areas, the Hailakandi Municipal Board (HMB) chalked out a numbering mechanism in consultation with the Hailakandi Merchants’ Association. Executive Officer, HMB, Tridip Roy said after threadbare discussion with Hailakandi Merchants’ Association at his office chamber on Wednesday, it was unanimously decided to open shops on the basis of numbers to ensure two shops are closed between two open shops, barring grocery shops, pharmacy and book stalls that can operate on permitted hours on all days. “All shops marked 1 will open on day 1, followed by shops with number 2 next day and so on and so forth,” said Roy.

Roy said the meeting also unanimously decided to entrust the responsibility for ensuring the new arrangement in place keeping in view the new COVID-19 guidelines to a prominent person and a former ward commissioner.
13 locations have been identified falling under the 16 wards of the municipality areas. Roy said in the event of any unresolved issues, the merchants’ association would seek the help of the persons concerned entrusted to look after respective locations. “In case the matter is not resolved amicably, the municipal board and police administration will step in,” he added. The Executive Officer further said the new arrangement of numbering of shops has been done to check the spread of COVID-19 within the municipal areas.
