Book stalls to remain open thrice a week in Hailakandi

Owners asked not to sell books to those not wearing masks

April 27: The district administration has allowed opening of book stalls for thrice a week to ensure availability of text books to students. In an order issued to this effect on Monday, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli said the trade licensed book stalls would remain open thrice a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm to facilitate available of text books to students. The order stated that the administration would also explore the possibility of delivery of text books and exercise books to students at home.

It stated that the shops would deal with curriculum books, facilitate home delivery on receiving orders and would share their mobile and landline numbers with DIPRO for publicity through print, electronic and social media network. The order asked the book stall owners to utilise the services of 50 per cent staff on rotation basis. It asked the book stall owners to ensure compliance of lockdown guidelines, social distancing and making available hand sanitiser and hand washing in front of the shops.

The order directed the book stall owners and staff to wear masks and not to sell any book to buyers not wearing masks. While asking the book stall owners to prevent gathering, the order warned that any violation of the conditions would attract penal action under Sections 52 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Sections 188 and 270 of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860).
