Lockdown wedding: Social distancing norms flouted in Kumaraswamy’s son wedding
April 17: “Nero fiddles while Rome burns” is a well known phrase. Nero was blamed for ignoring a serious matter, and neglecting his people while they suffered. In a similar vein, when the entire country is reeling under the impact of coronavirus outbreak, a VIP wedding took place in Karnataka this morning amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown and that too ignoring all the norms of ‘social distancing.’
Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s grandson Nikhil Kumaraswamy married Revathi, the grandniece of a Congress leader and former minister, at a farmhouse about 28 km from state capital Bengaluru. With over a hundred guests in participation for the wedding of actor-politician Nikhil Kumaraswamy, it was a grand affair. He is the son of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. According to the Karnataka police, passes for 42 vehicles and 120 people were given.
The photographs released by the family of the wedding that took place near Bidadi suggests that social distancing had not been maintained as promised earlier. Many netizens wrote in social media that the marriage could have been deferred by some days as the country is now engulfed in a battle against the deadly coronavirus.
