Lockdown 2.0: Kerala man carries sick father in arms for 1 km after police stops auto

April 16: Amid the nationwide lockdown, a man in Kerala had to walk nearly one kilometer carrying his 65-year-old ailing father after after the auto-rickshaw carrying them was allegedly stopped by the local police citing lockdown guidelines. The incident happened on Wednesday at Punalur, Kollam.

The man claimed that his father was discharged from the Punalur taluk hospital and the police stopped him even after showing hospital papers. A video of the man released by ANI carrying his father with a woman holding bags following them went viral on social media. His aged mother too was seen walking with them.

However, according to the police statement, when the autorickshaw was stopped there was no patient inside. They asked for a declaration document. He then walked to the hospital 200 meters away from the rickshaw and carried away his father in his arms. Meanwhile, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of the incident and has registered a suo moto case in connection with the incident.
