JNU hostel wardens resign for being unable to give security

January 06: Two wardens of the Sabarmati Hostel inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi submitted their resignations on 6 January on moral grounds. They expressed the view that they tried but could not provide security to the students.

In a letter addressed to the Dean of Students (DSW), Senior Warden Ramavatar Meena and Recreation Warden Prakash Chandra Sahoo of Sabarmati Hostel said that they were unable to provide enough security to the students.

Violence broke out at JNU on 5 January, 2020 as a gang of masked people armed with sticks and rods attacked students, teachers and damaged property on the campus. Atleast 28 people including Students’ Union President of JNU Aishe Ghosh were injured in the chaos which went on unabated for almost 2 long hours.
