Teacher of Assam University suspended on allegation of female research scholar

২০ ডিসেম্বর: নিজের এমফিল স্কলারকে  ক্রমাগত অশ্লীল ইঙ্গিতের অভিযোগে চাকরি থেকে সাসপেন্ড হলেন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাস কম্যুনিকেশন বিভাগের সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. পার্থ সরকার৷ স্কলার এ নিয়ে লিখিতভাবে উপাচার্যের কাছে নালিশ করেন৷ ছাত্র সংসদেরও দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেন৷

এই প্রেক্ষিতেই সভাপতি বিশ্বরূপ, সাধারণ সম্পাদক অরিত্র ধর, সাংস্কৃতিক সম্পাদিকা সুস্মিতা হোসি এবং সহ সাধারণ সম্পাদিকা(ফিমেল) তানা বর্মণের নেতৃত্বে  ছাত্ররা বৃহস্পতিবার ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য ডি কে পান্ডিয়ার সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করে৷ পার্থবাবুর সাসপেনসনের দাবি জানায়৷ ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য বিষয়টি সংশ্লিষ্ট কমিটির কাছে পাঠান৷

শুক্রবার দিনভর ছাত্ররা কমিটির রিপোর্টের অপেক্ষায় ছিল৷ কারও কোনও নড়াচড়া নেই দেখে বিকাল ৩টায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মূল গেট বন্ধ করে দেয়৷ ছাত্র-শিক্ষক-অশিক্ষক কর্মচারী সবাই আটকা পড়েন৷

ঘন্টাদুয়েক গেটে ছাত্রবিক্ষোভের পর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়ে দেন, কমিটির রিপোর্টের প্রেক্ষিতে ড. পার্থ সরকারকে চাকরি থেকে সাসপেন্ড করা হয়েছে৷ পরে ছাত্র-গবেষকরা আন্দোলন প্রত্যাহার করে নেয়৷

December 21: Incidents of sexual harassment seemed to be on the rise throughout. Once again, one such incident has surfaced in the campus of Assam University, Silchar wherein a female research scholar alleged sexual harassment by a teacher of the department wherein she is studying.

In this connection, the M.Phil scholar from the Department of Mass Communication filed a written complaint with the Assam University authority against her supervisor Dr. Partha Sarkar. On being informed, the office bearers of Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) raised a voice of protest on Friday late afternoon. They locked the main gate of the varsity and demanded immediate suspension of Dr. Partha Sarkar, Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication.

President of AUSU Biswarup, General Secretary Aritra Dhar, Cultural Secretary Susmita Hoshi and Assistant Secretary (Female) Tana Barman along with other students met the Vice Chancellor in-charge Prof. D.K. Pandiya and placed their demand before him. Prof. Pandiya forwarded the plea of the students before the concerned committee.

Finally, when the students locked the main gate and started protest agitation, all teaching and non-teaching staff of the varsity were unable to come out of the campus. After 2 hours of agitation, Registrar in-charge, Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, placed Dr. Partha Sarkar under suspension on the basis of the report of the concerned committee.
