Rahul Gandhi & other opposition leaders reaches Srinagar but Govt. sends them back

August 24: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and 11 leaders of other opposition parties who landed today at Srinagar airport were sent back to Delhi. At around 2.30 PM on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi and the other political party leaders landed in Srinagar airport. Those opposition leaders who accompanied Rahul Gandhi are Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, D Raja, Sharad Yadav, Manoj Jha, Majeed Memon among others.

On the heels of a proposed visit by Opposition members, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday to meet people of Kashmir where restrictions had been imposed after the Centre withdrew the special status to the State, the Jammu And Kashmir Information and Public Relations Department on Friday tweeted “attempts should not be made by senior political leaders to disturb the gradual restoration of normal life. Political leaders are requested to cooperate and not visit Srinagar as they would be putting other people to inconvenience. (2/3).”

Ghulam Nabi Azad who is part of Opposition delegation which visited Jammu and Kashmir today said, “On one hand Govt says situation is normal, and on the other hand they don’t allow anyone to go.Never seen such contradictions. If things are normal then why political leaders are under house arrest?”
