Shops gutted in a major fire at Silchar Steamer Ghat Road

July 23: A major fire broke out in the early morning on 23 July, 2019 at Steamer Ghat Road, Silchar (near Sadarghat). A few shops were totally gutted in the fire. Eye witnesses revealed that the fire broke out at around 5 in the morning. Fire Brigade was informed by the local people.

Fire engines rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire. It took about 30 minutes for the fire fighters to bring the fire under control. However, in the meantime, some of the shops were completely burnt.

Though there was no information on loss of life, but the exact amount of loss of commodities inside the shops could not be ascertained at this moment. Investigation is on and the exact cause of the outbreak of fire could not be known. Fire department is carrying on their investigation as to the cause of the fire.
