Gang of dacoits caught at Silcoorie, 1 died at the hands of angry mob

১ জুলাইঃ বেশ কিছুদিন ধরে শিলকুড়ি অঞ্চলে চুরি-ডাকাতির ঘটনা বেড়ে গিয়েছে। শুধু সুযোগ পেলে কিছু নিয়ে যাওয়া নয়। গাড়ি করে হাঁক পেড়ে সমস্ত জিনিস লুটে নেওয়াও ঘটনা ঘটছে। তাই গ্রামবাসী পাহারার ব্যবস্থা করে। রাত বাড়তেই সতর্ক থাকেন সবাই। এরই সুফল মিলল রবিবার।

রাত আড়াইটায় সাতজনের ডাকাতের দল মারুতি নিয়ে শিলকুড়ির পাথরটিলায় পৌঁছালে গ্রামবাসী দল বেঁধে তাদের আটকে দেয়। গাড়িতে তল্লাশি চালিয়ে ডেগার, দা, রশি খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়। খোঁজাখুজির মধ্যেই চারজন রাতের অন্ধকারে দৌড়ে পালায়। ধরা পড়ে তিনজন। শুরু হয় উত্তম মধ্যম।

গণপ্রহারে কুলিয়া রবিদাস নামে একজনের ঘটনাস্থলেই মৃত্যু হয়। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ গেলে জখম জয়নাল ইসলাম ও নুরুল ইসলাম লস্করকে উদ্ধার করে শিলচর মেডিক্যালে পাঠান। মারুতি গাড়িটি বাজেয়াপ্ত করে থানায় নিয়ে যান।

গ্রামবাসী জানিয়েছেন, ২৬ জুন এরাই শিলকুড়িতে বড়সড় ডাকাতি করে। সে থেকেই মূলত ডাকাতি প্রতিরোধে পাহারায় বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়।

July 1: Incidents of robbery and dacoity has increased since the last few months. Many such incidents occured where a gang of robbers looted the entire house and took away all belongings in a car which the gang brought along with them. People of the area became frustrated and so in order to catch the robbers, they remained alert round the clock. On Sunday, due to the efforts of the local people, a gang of robbers were nabbed red-handed.

On Sunday night at around 2.30, a gang of robbers reached with the intention of robbery at a place called Pathartilla near Silcoorie. There they attempted to break open the house of a person. However, the villagers got this information and they gheraoed the robbers. Taking advantage of the darkness, 4 of them eloped. Three of them were caught red-handed. A huge mob started to thrash the 3 robbers left and right.

Unable to sustain the thrashing of the mob, a youth Kuliya Rabi Das died on the spot. Police reached the spot and arrested the other 2 robbers, Joynal Islam and Nurul Islam Laskar. As they too were injured as a result of public thrashing, they were admitted at Silchar Medical college & Hospital. Police took the Maruti van in their custody.

Sharp weapons, rope etc were recovered from the van. Villagers informed that on last 26 June, this was the same gang who robbed a house at Silcoorie. Since then, the people of the village were alert to catch the robbers.
