১০ কোটি টাকার হীরে সহ হাইলাকান্দিতে দুই মহিলা গ্রেফতার
Diamonds worth Rs 10 crore recovered, 2 women arrested

২৫ জুনঃ ১০ কোটি টাকার হীরে সহ দুই মহিলাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। ধৃতরা ৬৪ বছরের মারিয়া চাংমাই ও ৪৬ বছরের মিনতি চাংমাই। তারা মাসী-বোনঝি। বাড়ি হোজাইয়ে।

মারিয়ার কথায়, কয়লা খনিতে কাজ করতে গিয়ে ওই হীরেগুলি পায় তার মাসতুতো ভাই। কয়লার সঙ্গে মাঝেমধ্যেই বিভিন্ন রকমের ধাতু পান শ্রমিকরা। হোজাইয়ে সেগুলি বিক্রি করে দুই-তিন লক্ষ টাকার বেশি মেলে না। এ বার হীরে প্রাপ্তির কথা জেনে হাইলাকান্দির এক যুবক মোবাইলে তাদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করে।  তার পরামর্শেই তারা হোজাই থেকে রেলে চড়ে বদরপুর আসে। সেখান থেকে অটোয় রওয়ানা হয়েছিল

আয়নাখালের উদ্দেশে। গোয়েন্দা সূত্রে খবর পেয়ে পথে মনাছড়ায় অটোতে তল্লাশি চালায় আসাম রাইফেলস। বাজেয়াপ্ত করা হয় ১ কিলোগ্রাম ৬৬৭ গ্রাম হীরে। আসাম রাইফেলসের অনুমান, এর বাজারমূল্য অন্তত দশ কোটি টাকা। বাজেয়াপ্ত সামগ্রী সহ দুই মহিলাকে পুলিশের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে মারিয়ার বক্তব্য, মধ্যস্থতাকারী যুবকটিকে তারা চেনে না। মোবাইলেই কথাবার্তা, পরিচয়। আয়নাখালে কার কাছে, কত টাকায় বিক্রি হতো, সে সবও তাদের জানা নেই। পুলিশ এই সব কথা বিশ্বাস  করতে নারাজ। তাদের অনুমান, এরা পেশাদারী পাচারকারী। জিজ্ঞাসাবাদেই সমস্ত তথ্য বেরিয়ে আসবে।

June 25: Diamond worth Rs. 10 crore was recovered from 2 women. The arrested women are close relatives. They were identified as Maria Chanmai (64) and Minati Changmai (46). They are residents of Hojai.

As per the statement of Maria, the diamonds were found by her maternal brother while in the coal mines. Coal mine workers often find precious metals while working there. By selling these things at Hojai, they earn a sum of around Rs. 3 lakh. The incident of finding diamonds was known by a youth who contacted them over telephone. It was on his advice that the two women boarded the train and came to Badarpur. From Badarpur they took an auto-rickshaw for Aynakhal.

However, on the basis of secret information, Assam Rifles stopped the auto at a place called Monachera and conducted search inside it. In the search, diamonds weighing 1 kg 667 grams were seized. Assam Rifles estimated that the market price of the seized diamonds would worth around Rs. 10 crore. The two women and the seized diamonds were handed over to the local police by Assam Rifles.

After preliminary interrogation, Mariya revealed that she does not personally know the youth who told them to come along with the diamonds. They came in contact with him through phone calls. They even did not know who would be purchasing the diamonds from them at Aynakhal and at what price. However, police team investigating the case is not ready to buy these words of the arrested women. They are of the opinion that these two are professional smugglers. The truth will be revealed only after thorough investigation.
