Seven dead and six injured in Khetri road accident on NH-27 in Assam

way2barak, September 1: The death toll in the accident on National Highway 27 in the Khetri area of Kamrup (Metro) district, Assam, has risen to seven, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred on the night of August 30 when a passenger vehicle travelling from Nagaon to Guwahati lost control, crossed the road divider, and collided head-on with an oncoming truck in the Nalgedra area near Khetri.

Those injured and admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) include Mujahidul Islam in orthopaedics, Deepjyoti Nath in the neurosurgery ICU, Jairul Islam (44 years old) in neurosurgery, Ashim Koch in the GICU, Ranjan Mondal in orthopaedics, and one unidentified patient around 20 years old shifted to the medicine ITU.

Dr Babul Bezbaruah, Principal cum Chief Superintendent of GMCH, confirmed that three bodies were brought to the hospital and six injured patients are receiving treatment.

Local residents staged a protest at the accident site on the night of August 30, citing potholes on the National Highway as a contributing factor.

Authorities reported that emergency responders reached the scene promptly to secure the area and clear wreckage, while injured survivors were transferred for intensive care. Kamrup (Metro) district police have registered a case and initiated a preliminary investigation into the causes of the vehicle losing control. Further information on the identities of the deceased and injured remains pending as authorities notify families.
