Mediation drive launched in Cachar for settlement of pending cases

way2barak, August 6: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Cachar has launched the “Mediation for Nation 3.0” campaign, a special mediation drive aimed at facilitating the settlement of pending court cases through mediation.

Notably,the initiative is being implemented under the guidance of the Assam State Legal Services Authority (ASLSA) and the Hon’ble Gauhati High Court Mediation Centre.

It’s worth mentioning that It is part of a nationwide campaign approved by the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India to promote the amicable settlement of suitable pending cases through mediation.

Under the campaign, pending cases suitable for mediation will be identified and screened before being referred to the Mediation Centre. Awareness programmes will also be organised to encourage litigants to opt for mediation as a speedy, confidential, cost-effective and mutually acceptable mode of dispute resolution.

The mediation drive covers a wide range of disputes including matrimonial matters, motor accident claim cases, cheque dishonour cases, criminal compoundable offences, consumer disputes, debt recovery matters, arbitration and commercial disputes, service matters, partition and eviction suits, land acquisition cases, labour disputes and other suitable civil matters.

Meanwhile, the District Legal Services Authority has appealed to litigants, advocates and members of the public to extend their support to the campaign by participating in the mediation process and availing themselves of its benefits for the peaceful and expeditious resolution of disputes. Parties receiving Notices of Mediation have been requested to appear before the concerned courts or the Mediation Centre as scheduled.

According to the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Cachar the initiative seeks to strengthen the culture of consensual dispute resolution by encouraging parties to resolve conflicts through dialogue thereby reducing litigation and contributing to a more efficient justice delivery system.
