Corporation election :  draft rolls to be published on June 29

way2barak, June 14:– The Assam State Election Commission has notified the schedule for ward-wise preparation, updation and publication of Electoral Rolls for the forthcoming election to the Silchar Municipal Corporation.

The notification has been issued in continuation of the constitution of the Silchar Municipal Corporation by the Government of Assam under the provisions of the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022. The Corporation comprises 42 wards and the electoral roll preparation process will be undertaken for all wards in accordance with the provisions of the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022.

As per the schedule notified by the Commission, the Draft Electoral Rolls will be published on June 29, 2026. Claims and objections relating to the Draft Electoral Rolls may be submitted up to July 6, 2026. The last date for disposal of claims and objections has been fixed as July 13, 2026, while the Final Electoral Rolls for all wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation will be published on July 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, in strict compliance with the guidelines of the Assam State Election Commission, a training programme for Registration Officers (ROs) was conducted at the Old Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, Silchar on Friday in preparation for the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, 2026.

The training sessions were conducted by District Development Commissioner, Cachar, Rajib Roy, ACS and Election Officer, Cachar, Masi Topno, ACS. During the programme, the officers provided detailed guidance on the legal provisions, prescribed procedures and responsibilities associated with the preparation and updation of electoral rolls, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a flawless, transparent and accurate electoral roll for the municipal election.

It’s worth mentioning that the electoral roll preparation, updation and publication process will be carried out in accordance with the procedures prescribed under Rules 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022. The rolls will be prepared on the basis of the Assembly Electoral Roll in force with January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date.

The Assam State Election Commission has also notified the appointment of Registration Officers for the respective wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.

Citizens are encouraged to verify their particulars in the Draft Electoral Rolls and submit claims or objections, if any, within the stipulated period so as to ensure an accurate and updated electoral roll for the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation Election.
