Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Condoles Demise of Veteran BJP Leader Kabindra Purkayastha

Guwahati, January 7 : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the passing away of veteran leader and former Union Minister Shri Kabindra Purkayastha, remembering him as an inspiration and a towering figure in Assam’s political landscape.
In a post on his official X handle, the Chief Minister described Purkayastha as a prolific intellectual and a committed karyakarta who played a pivotal role in laying the foundation of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the region and nurturing it into Assam’s preferred political party. He noted that from the lanes of Silchar to the corridors of Parliament, Purkayastha consistently worked with the welfare of the people at the forefront.
Recalling his journey from a pracharak to a Union Minister, Sarma said that Purkayastha tirelessly championed the cause of Assam and the Northeast in various forums. He highlighted that for party workers, Purkayastha was not only a people’s representative but also a mentor and guiding force who embodied values of simplicity, service and compassion.
The Chief Minister said that Purkayastha’s legacy lay not in the positions he held but in his lifelong commitment to sewa bhav, citing his efforts in assisting displaced Hindu refugees and contributing to Assam’s growth aspirations. He said the leader’s demise has left a void that can never be filled.
Expressing personal loss, Sarma said he would always cherish his long association and the lessons he learned from the veteran leader over the years. On behalf of the people of Assam, the Chief Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to Shri Kanad Purkayastha, the bereaved family members and well-wishers.
