Bicycles, scooters presented to meritorious students in Silchar

Way2barak, 13 December:  Minister Kaushik Rai, on Friday, lavished praises on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in Assam and said the state government under CM Himanta’s leadership is working actively for the growth and progress of various sectors and achieve its goal of transforming Assam as one of the best five states in the country. He also lauded CM Himanta for the formation of the Barak Valley Development Department (BVDD) saying this is the first time that a department aimed at working for the development and prosperity of Barak Valley has been created.

Minister Rai, who distributed bicycles, scooters and cash prizes to meritorious students under the Anundoram Borooah and Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit awards at a programme held on Gandhi Mela ground in Silchar on Friday morning, said CM Himanta, while taking his oath as the chief minister of Assam on May 10, 2021, had said he would work for the welfare of the masses and his vision is to make Assam one of the five best states in India and as per his commitment, he is working to achieve that goal. In every sector in the state, there has been impressive progress and development after Himanta became the CM, Rai said.

 

Speaking about the education sector, the minister said infrastructure in schools is being upgraded with introduction of smart classrooms and various other state-of-the-art facilities. Free text books, uniforms, mid-day meals are being provided and all these have brought significant improvement in the education system in Assam, he said.

 

Minister Koushika Rai also stated that the previous governments used to “do business” in case of providing jobs to people, but the present government led by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma values merit and gives jobs based on merit. The Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) is a great example of the same, Minister Rai stated.

 

The minister spoke about the Barak Valley Development Department and said CM Himanta has done an incredible job by creating the department. “No other government in the past cared for Barak Valley like this present government in Assam,” he said.

 

Further, he congratulated all the students who received awards on the day and wished them more and more success in the future.

 

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty expressed his thankfulness to CM Himanta for including two ministers from Barak Valley in his cabinet and for creating the BVDD. He praised minister Kaushik Rai, who has been assigned to lead the BVDD, saying Rai is a very hard working and active leader and that he has worked exceptionally well to take Lakhipur assembly constituency to newer heights of progress and prosperity in the past three-and-a-half years (after Rai became the MLA).

 

Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome said the education sector in Assam is witnessing rapid development under CM Himanta’s leadership and that he is confident about the sector reaching greater heights of progress in the coming years.

 

Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das lauded the Assam government saying the state government under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership is making commendable efforts to encourage and help students via the initiatives of giving bicycles and scooters. This will help in increasing literacy rate across the state and bring substantial growth in the education sector, Das stated.

 

A total of 1814 students were given scooters, 20,061 students were given bicycles and 1229 students were provided cash awards on the occasion. Some students were presented the prizes at the programme while the rest of the students will receive the same from their respective institutions.

 

Earlier,Mridul Yadav, district commissioner, Cachar delivered welcome address and explained the significance and objectives of the event. Numal Mahatta, superintendent of police, Cachar, Bibhash Deb, principal, Gurucharan College, Sujit Tiwari, principal, Women’s College and a few others were also present at the event.
