Assam University celebrated its Foundation Day
Way2barak, January 22 : The 31st Foundation Day of Assam University was celebrated today with a series of activities that included the inauguration of the new building of the Department of Pharmaceutical Science and the Gandhi Mandapam and the foundation stone laying of the University Amphitheatre in the memory of late Prof. S. B. Paul.
Honourable Chancellor of Assam University, Air Chief Marshal (Ret’d) Arup Raha delivered the Foundation Day lecture wherein he called upon the young generation to innovate, discover and produce to create an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’
The special guest at today’s Foundation Day programme, Prof. Kiran Seth, professor emeritus at IIT Delhi and founder of the SPICMACAY movement, emphasised on the mental health and well-being of students and how classical music can help improve the concentration levels and subsequently their academic performance.
Honourable Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, in his presidential address listed out the various initiatives undertaken by the University in the last one year and complimented all who have brought laurels to the University in their respective areas of expertise.
Several books authored by faculty members of the University were released on the occasion. The documentary film on Assam University, titled ‘Assam University at 30: From Stones to Milestones,’ produced by the Department of Mass Communication, and telecast on DD National recently, was also screened at the programme.
The programme concluded with a colourful cultural extravaganza, staged by the students of the Department of Performing Arts.
