New Barak Bridge at Silchar to be inaugurated by Himanta on 25 Feb
February 20: It’s an amazing night view. A causal glance at the picture of this bridge would convince many to believe that it is in Kolkata or Guwahati. But no, it’s our own new Sadarghat Bridge. The new Sadarghat bridge over river Barak is all dazzling with lights of white and blue shades. Earlier, it was learnt that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be inaugurating the bridge. However, as per reports, the bridge will now be inaugurated by state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 25 February, 2019 in the afternoon. The old bridge which is at present over there is almost in a dilapidated condition.
This new bridge has been constructed under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) Scheme of Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
The construction work of this bridge has been completed within a time of five years. The foundation stone of the bridge was laid in the year of 2014 by the then State Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ajanta Neog during the Congress regime.
On the same day (25 February), Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma will attend a public meeting at Police Parade ground, Silchar. He will also lay the foundation stones of Silchar District Library & Auditorium, a new Sports Stadium at Police Parade Ground and another bridge over Barak at Dudpatil.
Minister Sarma will stay overnight and will also lay the foundation stone of a Model Hospital at Kachudaram in Sonai constituency on 26 February.
