St. Thomas School celebrate Teacher’s Day amidst pomp & splendour

way2barak, Sept.5: Every year September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in the country. A day dedicated to teachers and their contributions in shaping one’s life, it commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a Bharat Ratna recipient and the first Vice President and second President of independent India. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888. Teachers’ Day is celebrated on his birthday since 1962, when he became the President of India and the day is marked with teachers and students reporting to school as usual but the usual activities and classes being replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance.

Keeping up to its tradition, St. Thomas High School, Silchar also celebrated the day in a befitting manner. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Sudarshan Gupta, Head of the Department of History, Radhamadhab College, Silchar. Editor of way2barak.com, one of the leading web portals of South Assam was the Guest of Honour. Principal of the school, Indrani Saha in the presence of the Managing Directors, teachers and students felicitated the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. All the faculty members of the school were also felicitated by the students.

In his speech, the Chief Guest, Sudarshan Gupta urged upon the students to study properly, respect their teachers and score good marks. He also advised the students to be good human beings. Principal of St Thomas, Indrani Saha too stressed on the aspect of inculcating values. She said, “Our mothers are our 1st teacher and so we all must respect our mothers.”

This was followed by a colourful cultural programme which began with Ganesh Vandana and a beautiful dance by a kid in the attire of Lord Shiva. Students from Nursery to Class X performed, Rabindra Nritya, folk dance, modern dance, skit, yoga etc. The programme was appreciated by all present there.

It needs mention here that St Thomas School though founded long ago, yet since 2020 has been moving forward in its new incarnation under the leadership of its able Management and dedicated Principal, teachers and staff. The student strength of the school is quite impressive who are taught by more than 30 faculty members.
