Cachar Police recovers huge quantity of Burmese cigarettes from 3 vehicles, 5 nabbed
Aug 1: Huge quantity of Burmese cigarettes were recovered from Hilara under Katigorah constituency in Cachar on Monday. Cachar Police successfully seized the Burmese cigarettes from the three vehicles which were on their way from Karimganj to Meghalaya. Five persons were also apprehended in this connection.
Those arrested were identified as Dinesh Tamuli of Kalain, Abhinash Kar of Silchar, Evensara Lamare & Leuli Deka from Meghalaya. Police recovered from them a passport and a mobile phone.
As per reports, out of the three luxury vehicles used to smuggle the Burmese cigarettes, one was without any number plate. The other two vehicles detected were with the following numbers: ML 05E 4482 & ML 05T 5777. As per police sources, the market price of the seized cigarettes would be around Rs.75 lakh.
