Special camp of NSS Unit of RMC held at Bethukandi concludes with a positive note ‘Quit tobacco, save life’

March 30: It was the closing day of the Special Camp of National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Radhamadhab College, Silchar (RMC). On Wednesday, the camp highlighting “Tobacco use results in cancer” saw its logical culmination. The awareness campaign as part of the NSS Special Camp was organised at the adopted village of Betukandi, near Kanakpur in Silchar.

The Special Camp organised under the able guidance of Dr Ch Mani Kumar Singha, Programme Officer of NSS Unit of RMC was also attended by NSS Volunteers, teachers of the college, social workers and people of the locality. During the closing ceremony, Dr Singha explained the aims and objectives of NSS and assured to offer services for the development of Bethukandi Village through spreading awareness on various germane issues.

The other speakers who attended the special camp and delivered speeches were Ruhul Amin Choudhury, Patient Navigator of Assam Cancer Cure Foundation. He was accompanied by Mani Sarkar, Staff Nurse of ACCF. Speaking during the occasion, Ruhul Amin Choudhury enlightened the villagers about the evils of consumption of tobacco and also stated that ‘use of tobacco causes cancer.’ He stated the symptoms related to oral cancer and mentioned the ways and means to prevent the occurrence of cancer.

Others who adorned the Special NSS Camp of RMC at Bethukandi were Kapil Chandra Barbhuiya, community head, Surajit Medhi, Head Master of Bhagyamati LP School, and Pinak Roy, President of NGO Rising Youth Society. Apart from oral cancer, awareness was also made on breast cancer and cervical cancer. The programme was compered by Dr Surjasen Deb, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali of RMC.
