Last rites of deceased police officer Gaur Bidhu Singh performed

March 22: An on-duty Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police shot himself with his service revolver inside Silchar Sadar Police Station at around 3,15 PM on Monday. The deceased police officer was identified as Gaur Bidhu Singh, posted as Seristadar at Silchar Sadar Police Station. After post-mortem at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), his dead body was brought to his home his house at Moynarbond area in Udharbond on Monday night, where his kith and kin broke into tears.

On Tuesday, the last rites of the deceased police officer Gaur Bidhu Singh was performed at his home in Udharbond. The rituals at the crematorium was performed by Ujjal Singh, eldest son of the deceased ASI. Amid full honour by the police department, the body of the ASI was cremated.

Earlier on Monday night, Reshmi Singh, the daughter of the deceased ASI Gaur Bidhu Singh and his son Ujjal Singh said, “Our father cannot commit suicide. Infact, he has not done so. Even today morning, he left for office in a jovial mood and was supposed to come at home for lunch at his usual time around 2 PM.There was much work pressure and his blood pressure was also high. We want justice. We want to know the real reason for his death. There should be a proper investigation of his death.”

On Monday, Ramandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police, Cachar said, “We are yet to ascertain the cause of his suicide. The legal formalities are being undertaken now. Pressure of duty is prevalent everywhere. But there are ways and means to deal with pressure and committing suicide is definitely not one of it. He was a quiet and hard working person with no issues at work place. If it was any workplace related pressure, he ought to have talked about it, but that was not the case. Anyhow, we will investigate into the matter.”
