Barak Valley registers 588 Covid +ve cases on Friday, 171 discharged

There are 2,226 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 14: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 588 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 171 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 2,226 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 548 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 476 positive cases   (It was 214 on Thursday)
  • Karimganj: 42 positive cases (It was 109 on Thursday)
  • Hailakandi:  70 positive cases (It was 76 on Thursday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Friday at 6.50 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 400-mark on Friday. A total of 476 persons were found positive in the district on 14 January. Also, 113 patients were discharged (08 from hospital & 105 from home) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1.386, out of which, 1,268 are in home isolation whereas 118 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Thursday, 325 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 2,125 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 285 persons were found positive, whereas 191 were detected positive out of 549 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 Jan 2022 reached 1,699 whereas during this phase, 362 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 13 January to 12 noon of 14 January, 2022. Further, a total of 5 persons died due to Covid in Cachar this year.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 13 January to 5 PM on 14 January) did not witness the death of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday evening.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 14 January, there were 42 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 02 patients were put under ventilator support, and 11 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 09 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 10 were discharged. Further, 03 patients were shifted to Covid Care Centre.

On Friday, Hailakandi registered 70 (67 RAT & 03 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 426 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 518 RAT tests and 70 RT-PCR tests were done. 26 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,511 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,557 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 90 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday. Till date, 51 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 737 persons were vaccinated on Tuesday.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 42 fresh COVID case on Friday. The district has currently 414 active COVID cases, while 32 patients were discharged on Friday. 517 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 133 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Thursday.

On Friday, out of 30,109 tests, 2,348 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,40,636. The positivity rate in the state is 7.80 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 870 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 05 died in the state due to COVID-19. The deceased are from Kamrup Metro (3), Bongaigaon (1) & Darrang (1). The death toll in the state stands at 6,197. The recovery rate is 96.44 percent. Also, 861 patients were discharged during the day. At present, there are 15,267 active cases in the state.

India on Friday recorded 2,64,202 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pushing the active caseload to 12,72,073. India witnessed a 6.7 per cent jump in new Covid cases as it added 2.64 new infections over the last 24 hours. The active cases comprise 3.48 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 95.20 per cent. The cumulative tally of cases now stood at 3,65,82,129. The country recorded 315 deaths due to related complications pushing the cumulative toll to 4,85,350. The number of confirmed cases of the Omicron variant that is driving the latest surge of the pandemic currently stood at 5,753.
