5 cases of Omicron variant of Covid-19 detected in Meghalaya

Jan. 4: After the 1st Omicron case in Northeast was reported from Manipur a few days ago, five more cases of this variant of Covid-19 came to surface from Meghalaya. As per reports, out of the 5 Omicron cases, one is a tourist from Assam, while the rest four are from two districts of Meghalaya. This was confirmed by Director of Health Services (DHS) Dr Aman Warr on Tuesday evening.

Earlier, in view of the spike in Omicron cases in the country, the Meghalaya government decided to impose fresh restrictions in the state with effect from 5 January. The Meghalaya Government has decided that even those who are fully vaccinated with doses shall require a negative RT-PCR test (conducted within 72 hours) before entering Meghalaya from 5 January, 2022. In the absence of such RTPCR reports, the passenger would need be tested at the entry point to Meghalaya. This was informed by CM Conrad Sangma while talking with the media on Monday.
