Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy surrenders PSO, escorts & house guards

Jan. 1: Responding to the call of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy on Sunday gave up his security cover provided by the police department of Assam. He also tweeted a photograph along with his personal security officers, escorts and house guards and wrote, “Released the @assampolice        personnel (PSO, Escorts and House guards) who served me for almost 3yrs with honour and dignity.”

Addressing a letter to Ramandeep kaur, Police Superintendent of Cachar on 2 January, 2022, Dr Rajdeep Roy wrote, “With deep sense of appreciation for Assam Government and Assam Police, I would like to surrender my entire security personnel (PSO, ESCORT and HOUSE GUARDS) with immediate effect. I would like to put on records my personal gratitude to all those staff of Assam Police who has served me with honor and dignity for the last 3 years approx. I have never subjected them to any indignation or any menial job for personal gratification.
I thank you once again for the support rendered to me during these years and promise to uphold the ideals of Assam Police as an when the situation arises.”

Meanwhile on the 1st day of 2022, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing in Guwahati stated that his Government has adopted a complete new policy towards deployment of Personal Security Officer (PSO). It will only be on the basis of core security review. The Chief Minister stated that except the constitutional posts like ministers, chief secretary, additional chief secretary, high court judges, deputy commissioners and other core posts, PSO will not be allotted. PSO’s will only be allowed to those persons who have life threat because of the office he/she holds.

The CM further stated that after the security review, SPs will have the power to provide PSO only for 10 days; DGP, IG, ADG (SB) can give security cover for 30 days. Beyond that, it needs to be approved by the Chief Minister on the basis of a security review committee. He informed that the details of the new policy will be briefed in a press conference by the DGP soon.
