CM Assam takes to the streets of Guwahati on 31st night, oversee traffic drive against drink & drive

Jan. 1: Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam since the last couple of days has made a strong appeal against ‘drink and drive’ on the eve of new year. He urged upon the public to obey the traffic rules for ensuring a ‘accident-free celebration of new year.’ Following this, the transport department issued stringent rules throughout the state so that traffic rules are obeyed and none drives vehicles under the consumption of alcohol.

On the 31st night, the Chief Minister paid a sudden visit in various parts of Guwahati to personally oversee the drive against ‘drink & drive’ carried on by the traffic police. People got down from their vehicles to take selfies with the Chief Minister. Addressing the CM as “Mama” (Uncle), many shook hands with him, while others were busy clicking photographs.The Chief Minister also was in a jovial mood. He even told many of the vehicle drivers not to mind for the inconvenience caused to them due to the move of the transport department. The Chief Minister was on the streets till 3 AM.

Taking to his twitter handle, the Chief Minister wrote, “Was on the streets of Guwahati throughout the night. Humbled to see the overwhelming response to our appeal to make 31st Dec an accident-free night. Kudos to @GuwahatiPol for doing their best. Let’s continue our effort to make each day and every night of 2022 accident free.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma also instructed the police and administration to launch drive in various picnic spots in Guwahati and other parts of the state especially the drivers should be examined. He said that if any drivers are found to be drunken, the picnickers need to be sent to the spot with another driver.
