Vegetable market of Fatak bazar to be shifted to abandoned land of SMB at Water Works Road
Dec. 19: MLA Dipayan Chakraborty and Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli have appealed to the citizens not to dispose of waste on roadside or in drains in Silchar town. A door-to-door garbage collection drive has been started on Sunday to make the town garbage-free.
On this occasion, MLA Chakraborty and DC Jalli went from house to house in wards 6 and 7 under Silchar Municipal Board from Ukilpatti in the town on Sunday and distributed two buckets each of red and green colour for waste management. Citizens were asked to segregate liquid waste in the red bucket and solid waste in the green bucket. As part of waste management, this waste will be collected and disposed off in a scientific manner through non-governmental voluntary organisations working under the municipality.
Accompanied by Municipal Executive Officer JR Lalsim, DC Jalli visited all the houses in wards 6 and 7 and gave a strong message to the citizens and shopkeepers that strict action would be taken against those who dump their waste in drains and roads. The trade license of such erring businessman will also be cancelled and won’t be renewed. Besides, the Deputy Commissioner also asked the executive officer of the municipality to take steps to ensure the removal of garbage on the roadside and drains while issuing a new trade license.
In addition to that, DC Cachar further stated that the vegetable market of Fatak bazar will be shifted to the abandoned land of the municipality on Water Works Road in the town. The Public Works Department will construct a vegetable market building with the funding of the APART ( Assam Agri Business and Rural Transformation) Project. This will result in ease of waste management at Fatak Bazar.
