SEBA & AHSEC to get merged soon: CM Assam
Nov. 24: Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) which conducts HSLC (Class X) examination and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), which conducts HS (Class XI, XII) examinations will get merged soon. This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference just after the Cabinet Meeting at Bongaigaon on Wednesday.
In order to implement the new National Education Policy, 2020, certain key decisions were adopted in the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The National Education Policy of India 2020 (NEP 2020), which was approved by the Union Cabinet of India on 29 July 2020, outlines the vision of new education system of India. Taking a step forward in the implementation of NEP 2020, the Assam Government on Wednesday took certain significant decisions in this connection in the cabinet meeting held at Bongaigaon.

Restructuring Education System: School education structure to be changed from existing 10+2 to 5+3+3+4
- 5 years (pre-school) under Directorate of Elementary Education
- 3 years (classes III, IV & V) under Directorate of Elementary Education
- 3 years (classes VI, VII & VIII) under Directorate of Education
- 4 years (classes IX, X, XI & XII) under Directorate of Education
- The change to come into effect from 2023
The first phase will be the basic curriculum. The second phase will be the primary course from Class VI to Class VIII. Classes IX-XII will be high school, said CM Sarma.
