Union Minister Babul Supriyo meets HPC delegation, gives positive assurance

January 3: Since the last 24 months, Hindustan Paper Mills of Panchgram and Nagaon are closed. The employees are without salaries. The employees and their family members are passing their days in poverty. Their children are deprived of education. Looking at their miserable plight, Subimal Bhattacharjee Director of JOOKTO Foundation took initiative and organised a meeting of the Hindustan Paper Mills employees and their families under the banner of Family Members and Citizens Forum with Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industry and Public Enterprise.

The meeting took place at New Delhi on Thursday evening. The employees of the Hindustan Paper Mill Corporation raised the issue of their plight of non payment of salaries for the last two years.The minister gave a patient hearing and told them of the steps being undertaken to redress their issues. Mr. Supriyo also spoke to senior PMO officials including Nripendra Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister to be able to solve the long pending issues related to the paper mill.

Earlier, they had also met Satyendra Garg Joint Secretary North East in Ministry of Home Affairs and apprised him of their plight. The HPC team comprising of Nabendu Dey,  Sanjb Das, Smti Dolly Dey and Sorbojaya Das along with ten others have been camping in Delhi for the last 5 days to meet several officials to apprise them of the situation. Subimal Bhattacharjee has made efforts to help them to meet the minister and other officials so that their issue of pending salaries and the reopening of the mill can be done at the earliest convenience.

Meanwhile, sources have revealed that there is a possibility of some announcement by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his mass meeting at Ramanagar (Silchar) on Friday.
