Three Vice-Chancellors visit Assam University’s Gandhi Memorial Museum

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৬ অক্টোবর : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের গান্ধী স্মৃতি জাদুঘর পরিদর্শন করলেন জামিয়া মিলিয়া ইসলামিয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক মাজহার আসিফ ও দক্ষিণ বিহার কেন্দ্রীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক কামেশ্বর নাথ সিং। গতকাল উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ অতিথি উপাচার্যদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে জাদুঘরের স্বতন্ত্র ও বিরল সংগ্রহগুলি ঘুরে দেখান।

এই জাদুঘরে রয়েছে মহাত্মা গান্ধীর মূল্যবান ছবি, গান্ধীজীর লেখা ও তাঁর ওপর লেখা মৌলিক বই এবং স্বনির্ভরতার মূল চেতনার প্রতীক ঐতিহ্যবাহী চরকা। এছাড়াও রয়েছে বরাক উপত্যকায় ব্যবহৃত আদি মাছ ধরার যন্ত্র, মনোমুগ্ধকর সরা চিত্রকর্ম, সৃজনশীল ত্রিডি শিল্পকর্ম, ধানের তুষ থেকে অনন্যভাবে তৈরি মহাত্মা গান্ধীর একটি জীবন-আকারের প্রতিকৃতি, জুট কর্পোরেশন অব ইন্ডিয়ার সহযোগিতায় তৈরি পাট-ভিত্তিক পণ্যের বৈচিত্র্য, উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতের বিভিন্ন সম্প্রদায়ের ঐতিহ্যবাহী পোশাক ইত্যাদি।

অধ্যাপক আসিফ ও অধ্যাপক সিং জাদুঘর ঘুরে সন্তোষ ব্যক্ত করেন। সেইসঙ্গে তাঁরা এই জাদুঘরকে এক অসাধারণ শিক্ষার কেন্দ্র হিসাবে বর্ণনা করেন। ঐতিহ্য সংরক্ষণে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করে উভয় উপাচার্যই তাঁদের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে এ ধরনের সাংস্কৃতিক ভাণ্ডার গড়ে তোলার ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করেন।

অধ্যাপক পন্থ এই জাদুঘর স্থাপনায় জড়িত সবার প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করে বলেন, এই জাদুঘরটি শুধু জাতির জনকের উত্তরাধিকারকে সম্মান করে না বরং শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে ভারতের মূল্যবোধ, ঐতিহ্য এবং শৈল্পিক ঐতিহ্যের গভীর উপলব্ধি বৃদ্ধি করে।

Way2barak, 26 October :  Prof. Majhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia University, and Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of South Bihar yesterday visited the Gandhi Memorial Museum in the Assam University along with the Vice Chancellor of Assam University Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant. The visiting dignitaries were taken through the museum’s distinctive and rare collections, which include precious photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, original books authored by and on Gandhi, and a traditional charkha symbolizing the core spirit of self-reliance.

The museum also features indigenous fishing instruments used in the Barak Valley, captivating Sora paintings, creative 3D art productions, and a life-size portrait of Mahatma Gandhi uniquely crafted from rice husk, an innovative representation of sustainable artistry. A special attraction is the diverse range of jute-based custom products developed in collaboration with the Jute Corporation of India, accompanied by traditional attires and shawls from different communities of Northeast India.

Notably, all paintings, artistic installations, and exhibits have been entirely conceptualized and crafted by the university’s own staff and students, demonstrating their talent, cultural awareness, and dedication to preserving history.

Prof. Asif and Prof. Singh expressed profound appreciation for the museum’s vision, describing it as a remarkable center of learning that bridges India’s past with the creativity of its youth. Both the visiting Vice-Chancellors conveyed their willingness to replicate such a cultural repository in their respective universities, applauding Assam University for setting a commendable example in heritage preservation.

Prof. Pant extended gratitude to everyone involved and stressed that the museum not only honors the legacy of the Father of the Nation but also fosters a deeper understanding of India’s values, traditions, and artistic heritage among students. The visit concluded with a collective reflection on Gandhian ideals and a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to nurturing cultural enlightenment.
