6 Covid-19 patients die at SMCH in last 24 hours

99 patients in ICU, 30 in ventilator support & 134 put under oxygen at SMCH

June 7: Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 6 June to 5 PM on 7 June) witnessed demise of 06 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 6 deceased, 05 are from Cachar district, while 01 is from Karimganj district. The deceased were identified as:

  • Satish Biswas (65) from Dolu in Cachar was admitted at SMCH on 1 June. He, however, passed away at 10.15 PM on 6 June.
  • Rahim Uddin Barbhuiya (40) from NIT Silchar took admission at SMCH on 3 June. He breathed his last at 7.40  AM on 7 June.
  • Sudhir Das (72) from Udharbond in Cachar got admitted at SMCH on 2 June. He expired at 11.25 AM on 7 June.
  • Hawarunnesha (65) from Patherkandi in Karimganj district was admitted at SMCH on 6 June. She died at 1 PM on 7 June.
  • Pran Chandra Dushad (83) from Silcorrie, Cachar took admission at SMCH on 4 June. He passed away at 1.15 PM on 7 June.
  • Sheetal Das (66) from Rongpur, Silchar got admitted at SMCH on 30 May. He breathed his last at 1.40 PM on 7 June.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 7 June, there were 231 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 99 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 132 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 30 patients were put under ventilator support and 134 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 34 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 45 of them were discharged. Further, 29 of them have opted for home isolation.
