Couple in Assam gets cheque worth ₹1 under ‘Microfinance Incentive & Relief Scheme’!

way2barak, Nov.8: In a bizarre incident, a couple from Bongaigaon in Assam identified as Rejaul Ali and his wife Tajmina Khatun was handed over a cheque along with others by the Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme of the Government of Assam. The couple is a beneficiary of the Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme. But what surprised all including the couple was at the value of the cheque as Rs.1 only!

The cheques the Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme of the Assam Government were distributed at Gandhi Maidan in Bongaigaon district of Assam on 6 November, 2022. Expressing their displeasure, Rejaul Ali and his wife Tajmina Khatun said that they had to spend an amount of Rs. 400 to reach the venue and another Rs. 650 to get the clearance certificate from the bank only to receive a check worth Rs.1. They also had to spend an amount of Rs.1000 for refreshment. In total, the couple spent Rs.2050 to travel all the way and collect the meagre amount of Rs.1. “Isn’t it not a mockery and harasment meted out to us by the government,” said Rejaul Ali while interacting with the media.

The couple informed the media that that they have returned back the cheque and have urged upon the state government to compensate the loss they incurred for receiving it.
