447 adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccination In India: Union Health Ministry
Jan. 17: More than 224,301 people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease in last 2 days, out of which only 447 reported adverse effects and only three had to be admitted to hospitals. This was stated by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday. Out of the 3 hospitalised persons, two have already been discharged while one is admitted at AIIMS Rishikesh and is doing fine.
Manohar Agnani, a senior health ministry official said, “Today being Sunday, only six states conducted vaccination drive and in 553 sessions a total of 17,072 beneficiaries were vaccinated.” Most of the Adverse event following immunization (AEFI) reported so far are minor like fever, headache, nausea, he added.
India on Saturday launched the world’s largest vaccination campaign in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus and aims to vaccinate 30 million frontline workers in the first phase of the programme. India has approved two vaccines – Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech and Covishield from the Oxford/AstraZeneca stable being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India – for emergency use in the country.
While India has started the covid-19 vaccination, the burden of the highly infectious disease continues to rise in the country. India current number of active cases remained 2,08,826 on Sunday that share 1.98%. of the total cases.
