44 students detected Covid positive in Assam Agricultural University
Jan. 10: In a recent development, at least 44 students were found Covid-19 positive in Assam Agricultural University (AAU) in Jorhat on Monday. Following this, the University authorities declared students’hostels No. 11 & 12 as containment zones. Out of the 44 positive students, three of them have come all the way from South Africa. Their samples were sent for genome sequencing at the Northeast Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in Jorhat.
As per reports, the 44 students were identified as covid positive following a test done by a special kit developed by the ICMR-RMRC Lahowal.
On Sunday, out of 15,238 tests, 988 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,26,741. The positivity rate in the state is 6.48 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 490 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 01 died in the state due to COVID-19. The deceased is from Sonitpur. The death toll in the state stands at 6,181. The recovery rate is 97.99 percent. Also, 488 patients were discharged during the day. At present, there are 5.087 active cases in the state.
