Summer-Puja vacations, holidays, Sundays to be used to compensate 52 days probable loss of students

April 22: Addressing a press meet in Guwahati on Wednesday, State Education Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that to be optimistic, if the coronavirus pandemic gets over even by 30 May, then there will be a loss of total 52 academic days. This the minister feels could be compensated. He mentioned that the teaching community needs to be ready to make some sacrifice.

Regarding the proposed policy to compensate the loss of classes, the minister said that the academic year can be saved by scrapping summer vacation, restricting Puja holidays to only 4 days, scrapping holidays, opening schools on Saturdays and Sundays. He said that this is just a blueprint because everything depends on when the coronavirus pandemic is going to end. However, if ill luck prevails, and the pandemic lasts even beyond May, then it will indeed be difficult to comprehend as of now how to compensate the academic loss.
