2nd Zoo in Assam to come up in Silchar at an expense of ₹214crore: Assam Cabinet
Jan. 19: The weekly cabinet meeting was held in Haflong on Wednesday. After the meeting, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while briefing the media stated that the Wildlife Safari cum Zoo will come up in Dholai, Cachar at a cost of Rs. 214.54 crore. This would be the 2nd Zoo in the state after that in Guwahati.
The Chief Minister said, “This new zoo in Silchar will be an open Zoo, that means, the animals will not be kept inside cages. Rather, the animals will roam inside the specific area of the zoo freely. Human beings who would visit the zoo will take the tour in closed vehicles.” The area of the proposed site for the zoo will be around 200 hectares and it will be set up without destroying the flora therein.
