TET guidelines announced, results to be valid for 7 years from date of announcement

September 25: In a meeting of the state Education department held at the office of the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA), certain pertinent decisions were taken as regards the forthcoming Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The last time TET examination in Assam was held in 2012 during the erstwhile Congress government. This is the first TET examination to be held on 10 November, 2019 in the 33 districts of the state after the BJP came to power.

One major change brought in for the forthcoming TET exam is that this year the candidates will have to sign their answer scripts or else they will be considered as absentees. Further, the TET exam will be held in 2 shifts in a day. That means the examination for the Lower Primary (LP) will start at 8:30 AM, while the Upper Primary (UP)  TET examination will begin at 12:30 PM on the same day.

At present, 10,137 posts are vacant in the LP level while in the UP level 7,155 posts are lying vacant. Assam TET 2019 will be held after a gap of seven years. All necessary measures to conduct the TET exam in a free and fair manner has been adopted by the state government. The examination will be held amidst tight security. The deputy commissioners, sub-divisional officers (civil) and the respective police stations of the districts will take care of the security of the examination centres.

Further, in a report by NorthEast Now, it was stated that the result of this examination will be valid for seven years from the date of announcement. Infact, in the month of June 2019, a huge controversy erupted when Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjee said, “Like driving licences, which need to be renewed after a certain period, TET qualified teachers also need to get new certificates after seven years.” As a mark of protest, TET qualified teachers then prefixed the word ‘driver’ ahead of their names in social media as a mark of protest.
