Dr. Manoj Kumar Paul Pledges for Posthumous Eye Donation on His Birthday

way2barak, November 10: In a remarkable gesture of humanism and social responsibility, Dr. Manoj Kumar Paul, former Principal of Women’s College, Silchar, pledged for posthumous eye donation on the occasion of his birthday. By signing the eye donation pledge form, Dr. Paul has set an inspiring example for society, promoting the noble cause of restoring vision to the blind.

A simple and graceful programme was organised at Riyan International School, Silchar, where Dr. Paul presently serves as the Academic Director. The pledge was taken in association with SAKSHAM–CAMBA, a reputed NGO working in the field of eye and organ donation. Sri Biswaraj Chakraborty and Dr. Mithun Roy were present on behalf of the organization to witness and support this noble initiative.

The event was graced by the Director of the School, Sri Kalipodo Das; Principal, Smt. Supriya Das; Secretary of the Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum, Cachar District Committee, Sri Sabyasachi Rudra Gupta; and all teaching and non-teaching staff members of the school. All of them wholeheartedly appreciated the noble step taken by their Academic Director for the cause of those who cannot see the beauties of this world.

Dr. Paul, an eminent educationist and social thinker, has dedicated his life to spreading awareness on education, ethics, and community service. Beyond academics, he is deeply engaged in various socio-cultural and humanitarian activities. He currently serves as the President of the Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum, an organization devoted to promoting voluntary blood donation and saving lives. Reflecting his lifelong commitment, Dr. Paul has personally donated blood 52 times, helping patients in critical need and inspiring others to contribute to this humanitarian mission.

Expressing their heartfelt pride and joy, Dr. Paul’s two sons, residing in Bangalore, conveyed their happiness over their father’s decision to pledge for eye donation. His wife has also given her consent with gladness, supporting this noble step that reflects the family’s shared values of compassion and service to humanity.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Paul remarked that “the gift of sight is one of the greatest gifts a human can offer. Through eye donation, even after death, one can continue to illuminate the world of another.”

The objective of this pledge is to create awareness about eye donation and encourage citizens to participate in organ donation programs. According to national estimates, millions of people in India suffer from corneal blindness that could be treated through corneal transplantation. Eye donation after death can help restore sight to two individuals and significantly reduce the waiting list for corneal transplants.

Dr. Paul’s initiative aims to inspire educators, students, and the general public to recognize the importance of such humanitarian acts and to come forward voluntarily in support of this life-changing cause.
