2 women administrators guarding Cachar; CM Assam lauds DC, SP for dedicated efforts

From patrolling border stretches to walking through several kms of dense forest, the duo kept their valour on a constant high

Aug 4: Gender roles in communities changed lately whereby women now play equal role as men in owning and lead large companies, very active in their families and communities, own personal businesses, manage big organisations, head political groups, earn higher academic degrees from all sectors equal to men, manage with skills administrative tasks etc. Such instances in the 21st century can be seen all around us.

It’s the women in Tokyo Olympics 2021, who have earned laurels for the nation. Similarly, when it comes to run the administrative affairs of the district, both civil and police, women can now be seen in the forefront. A glaring instance is that of Cachar district in Southern Assam, where 2 women administrators, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli and Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur are steering the district through sun and shower.

On July 26, the inter-state border of Assam-Mizoram at Lailapur of Cachar district flared up with sounds of volley of bullets and tear gas, snuffing out the lives of six Assam Police jawans and injuring scores, including Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP), Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakanth. With bullets embedded in his body, the IPS officer was airlifted to a Mumbai hospital and immediately thereafter, Hailakandi SP Ramandeep Kaur took over the reins as SP Cachar.

This made both the senior women administrative officials of the district, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli, IAS, and Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur, IPS at the helm of affairs. The July 26 skirmish at the border necessitated both the lady officers to make repeated visits to the borders and also camp there to ascertain security at ground zero. From patrolling the border stretches to walking through several kms of dense forest, the duo never stepped back and kept their valour on a constant high.

The hard work and tenacity of the two lady administrators have exemplified once again that women are no less than men in any field and that they are excelling even in prestigious services of the country. The diligence of both DC Jalli and SP Kaur in managing the border turmoil, has also earned accolades from none other than Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has hailed the efforts of both as epitome of ‘Nari Shakti’.

Reacting to the appreciation, Jalli on Monday said, “It’s a great honour to receive recognition from the Hon’ble Chief Minister. Such accolades inspire us to work more. CM Sir’s recognition stands as a testimony that sincere oriented development initiatives will always get support. This motivates us to toil even harder for the district and the state”.

Complementing her colleagues, DC Keerthi stated that hard work pays off due to ample guidance of the seniors who create a positive environment to work. “Each of us has the capability of doing something we want, chasing any goal we dream of, and being willing to do the work that it takes to turn it into reality,” Jalli said for all young aspirants of the district, who are aspiring to get well entrenched in their academics and life.

Cachar SP Kaur’s contribution also does not go unnoticed, as she dons armoury and trudges along miles and miles through the dense region of the state boundaries to safeguard the constitutional boundary of the state. Belonging to the 2013 batch, Kaur is a highly trained IPS officer with sufficient ground experience.

“It is a great honour and matter of pride to get compliments from CM Sir on Nari Shakti. It’s the government’s mandate to protect the forests and borders of Assam and I am discharging my duties with utmost responsibility and to the best of my capacity,” Kaur quipped. “No challenges can prevent me from performing my duties and I am indebted by the honour and the faith reposed on me by the government and people of Assam,” she added.

Challenging the male hegemony in every field, the duo has truly paved the way for women aspirants to make their presence felt come what may!
