2 more deaths registered in last 24 hours at SMCH
September 8: The number of deaths in Barak Valley continued unabated on Tuesday also. Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that in the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 2 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Both of them are from Cachar district. district. It needs mention here that Monday registered the biggest single-day spike in the number of deaths in Barak Valley with 8 deaths in all, out of which, only 1 was certified as ‘Covid-death.’
Though the valley witnessed many deaths till now, yet all of them were not certified as COVID-19 deaths. However, this also cannot be ruled out that, all of them were infected with coronavirus. Those COVID positive persons who die due to co-morbidities are usually not certified as ‘Covid-19’ death by the audit board. Those who died during the last 24 hours at SMCH were identified as:
- Shanu Sutradhar (37) from National Highway, Silchar was admitted at SMCH in the evening on 4 September. He, however, succumbed to the infection at 4.40 PM on 7 September. His death was certified as Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
- Banibrata Deb (72) from Club Road, Silchar got admitted in SMCH at 2.30 PM on 4 September. He breathed his last at 11.30 PM on 7 September. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
