Heavy rainfall predicted in Assam including Barak Valley during next 5 days

May 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Assam and parts of the North Eastern region during the next 5 days. Heavy to moderate rainfall will also be witnessed in the three districts of Barak Valley from 4 June to 8 June, 2021. As per the weather forecast, it will generally be a cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers.

Current Meteorological conditions

  • A trough from the cyclonic circulation over West Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level to Assam across East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.
  • Under the influence of strong lower level south-westerlies from the Bay of Bengal, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning and heavy falls at isolated places are likely over Northeast India during 04 – 08 May 2021.

Forecast & Warnings for the next five days:

  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity is very likely during 04 – 08 May 2021 in the North-eastern states.
  • Isolated heavy rain during 05 – 08 May 2021 are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh; Isolated heavy rain during 04- 08 May 2021 are very likely over Assam & Meghalaya; ; Isolated heavy rain on 05, 06 & 08 May 2021 are very likely over Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram. Isolated heavy falls.
