Ray of hope: 97-year-old lady wins fight against Covid & released from SMCH after 12 days

July 19: A lot of negative incidents induced by Covid-19 gets reported in media almost everyday. However, on Monday, an incident from Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) was reported, which definitely provided the impetus to face and fight coronavirus. A 97-year-old lady, Jyotshna Rani Deb got admitted at SMCH on 7 July from Udharbond in Cachar district, after she complained of shortness of breath. The very next day, that is, on 8 July, the lady was detected as Covid-19 positive in RT-PCR test.

The 97-year-old lady was then shifted to Covid ICU at SMCH. She was tested negative on 16 July, following which, she was shifted to the Medicine ward on 17 July. On 19 July, Jyotshna Rani Deb was discharged from SMCH after she got completely cured. Informing this, Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH said, “This is indeed a great news for us as this is the 1st time that we were able to cure completely a lady aged 97 years and discharged her on Monday.”

Expressing his views, the son of the 97-year-old lady said, “It’s really the most happiest day for me to take back my mother home after getting fully cured. This was only possible due to the utmost service of the doctors, nurses and all others of SMCH involved in the process of treatment.”

During the discharge of lady, present there were Covid Nodal Officer Treatmeent of SMCH- Dr Rituraj Thakuria, Dr Amit Kalwar of the Deptt of Medicine, Dr Haricharan Sarangsa, Dr Nabaruna, Dr Jefrin, Dr Vikash Sandilya among others.
