10-day enhanced COVID-19 vaccination drive to begin in Assam from 21 June: Himanta Biswa Sarma

In urban areas, vaccination will continue from 8 am to 8 pm & in rural areas from 8 am to 1 pm

June 19: In order to arrest the further spread of coronavirus among the people, the government has now embarked upon a policy of vaccinating more and more people. It is in this connection, that a virtual meeting of all Deputy Commissioners, Superintendent of Police, Joint Director of Health Services and Principals of all Medical Colleges of the state was held on Saturday, which was chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Health Minister Keshab Mahanta was also present in the meeting. The Chief Minister informed the district authorities that an enhanced Covid-19 vaccination drive will begin in Assam from 21 June to 30 June, 2021.

Here are the key points of the decisions taken in the virtual meeting on Saturday:

  • The districts were directed to strive to achieve the target of 3 lakh vaccinations everyday, from June 21 to June 30, in the state.
  • All guardian ministers & secretaries to camp at their respective districts for the next seven days to ensure maximum vaccination.
  • Central Govt will provide #COVID-19 vaccines to 18+ people free of cost. There will be no separate category based on age for vaccination.
  • State Government will provide an assistance of Rs 100 per day to vaccination workers for transportation cost & other expenses.
  • There will be 2000 vaccination centres across Assam.
  • In urban areas, vaccination will continue from 8 am to 8 pm, in two shifts. In Rural areas, it will be from 8 am to 1 pm.

  • At every vaccination centre, there will be a designated worker to help in doing the on-the-spot registrations
  • The Chief Minister urged upon the Health Department to maximise publicity to bring maximum people to vaccination centres.
  • Further, an appeal was made to the NGOs & social organisations including political workers to motivate people to take part in the vaccination drive.
  • All govt & private sector employees including the shopkeepers etc. should come forward for vaccination at the earliest to be able to join their workplaces soon.
  • Direction was also given to the officials to ensure targeting vulnerable pockets like tea garden as well for vaccination.
