WORLD SANSKRIT DAY CELEBRATION AT CACHAR COLLEGE

way2barak August 10: On 9th August, Saturday, the Department of Sanskrit, Cachar College has organised the World Sanskrit Day and the Rakhsabandhan celebration to increase awareness and promote Sanskrit, the most ancient language as well as literature of the world. The celebration started with Vedic Mangalacharanam uttered by the 5th semester student Udit Sinha, who hosted whole programme in Sanskrit language. Dr. Apratim Nag, Principal Cachar College and other guests were lightening the lamp in front of the Goddess Sarasvati, while the students of Sanskrit Department were chanting the Dvipamantra and Sarasvati Bandana. Eminent Sanskrit Scholar Prof. Shanti Pokhrel, Head of the Department, Assam University was present as the Chief Guest and Dr. Shamita Nag Dhar, Dr. Ashima Bhattacharjee and Dr. Shilpi Dutta Majumder were present as the Special Guests, who were the former HOD, Department of Sanskrit, Cachar College. Nayana Goswami, Head, Department of Sanskrit addressed her welcoming speech. In his speech, Dr. Apratim Nag, Principal Cachar College, shared his insightful views on Sanskrit language as well as literature by inspiring words and congratulated the Department of Sanskrit for organising this event. As the chief guest of this occasion, Prof. Shanti Pokhrel delivered his intellectual speech on the significance of the Sanskrit Day Celebration and also the importance and relevance of Sanskrit language and literature. Dr. Shamita Nag Dhar, former Head of the Department of Sanskrit, Cachar College encouraged the students and shared her experiences along with the relevance of Sanskrit learning. Former retired head of the Sanskrit Department of Cachar College Dr. Ashima Bhattacharya and Dr. Shilpi Dutta Majumder were also shared their knowledge thoughts. Md. Shamsuddin, Vice Principal and HOD, Department of History of Cachar College also delivered his speech on Sanskrit in the Historical perspective. Many faculties from other departments of the Cachar College also shared their opinions and encouraged the students. Students of the Department of Sanskrit celebrated the World Sanskrit Day by performing Sanskrit songs, dance, poem recitation, speech, etc. In the last part of the programme, the students of Sanskrit Department had celebrated Rakshabandhan and tied Rakhi in the hands of all present during the programme. The vote of thanks giving was expressed by Guest Faculty Biman Roy. The Faculties and students from other department praised the programme as well organized, which was successfully completed with the active participation.
