Action Committee confirms Barak Bandh on 22 Nov, Mass rally at Silchar

২১ নভেম্বরঃ বৃহস্পতিবারের বরাক বনধ হচ্ছেই, বনধ আহ্বায়করা বুধবার শিলচর শহরে মিছিল করে সেকথাই জানিয়ে দিলেন।

এই বনধ হবে কিনা, দুদিন ধরে জোর চর্চা চলছিল। নগাঁও পেপার মিল নিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বনধ আহ্বায়কদের বৈঠকের পরেই এই প্রশ্ন দেখা দেয়। মিল খোলার জন্য প্যাকেজ আদায় নিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শীঘ্রই প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে আলোচনা করবেন, এই আশ্বাসের ভিত্তিতেই মধ্য অসম বনধ প্রত্যাহৃত হয়েছে। বরাক বনধের আহ্বায়করা জানিয়েছেন, মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বৈঠকে তাঁদের কাউকে ডাকা হয়নি। ফলে সেখানে কী কথা হয়েছে, তাঁরা জানেন না।

প্রশাসনের তরফ থেকেও কেউ কিছু জানাননি। এ ছাড়া, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে কথা বলবেন, এ নতুন কোনও আশ্বাস নয়। এই কথাই আন্দোলন থেকে সরে আসার যুক্তি নেই। তাই দিনভর মাইকিংয়ের পাশাপাশি বুধবার বিকেলে বনধের সমর্থনে মিছিল বেরোয় শিলচর শহরে। ক্ষুদিরাম মূর্তির পাদদেশে জমায়েত হয়ে মিছিল যায় চিত্তরঞ্জন দাশের মূর্তির পাদদেশে। তাতে অবিজেপি প্রায় সব সংগঠনের প্রতিনিধিরাই উপস্থিত ছিলেন। কংগ্রেস নেতা কিশোর ভট্টাচার্য, শরিফুজ্জামান লস্কর, সঞ্জীব রায়, সিপিএমের জেলা সম্পাদক দুলাল মিত্র, এসইউসিআই নেতা সুব্রত নাথ, সিপিআই-র নীতীশ দে সহ অনেকে অংশ নেন মিছিলে। ছিলেন কমল চক্রবর্তী, বুদ্ধপ্রতীম দাস, প্রশান্ত বসু সহ শহরের বিভিন্ন স্তরের মানুষ। কাগজ কল কর্মচারীদের পরিবারের স্ত্রী-পুত্র-কন্যারাও বনধ সার্থক করার দাবিতে স্লোগান তোলেন।

মিছিল শুরুর জমায়েতে এইচপিসি পেপার মিলস রিভাইভ্যাল অ্যাকশন কমিটির আহ্বায়ক মানবেন্দ্র চক্রবর্তী বলেন, কেন্দ্র-রাজ্য উভয় সরকার কম প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয়নি। কিন্তু মিল খোলার পথে হাঁটছেন না। ফলে তাঁদের আন্তরিকতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন ওঠাই স্বাভাবিক। এই অবস্থায় আন্দোলন ছাড়া উপায় নেই। মিছিল শেষে একই কথা শোনান সমীরণ আচার্য, রফিক আহমেদরা।

November 21: A mass rally was convened  by HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee on Wednesday evening in support of the 12-hour bandh called by them on Thursday. At the beginning of the rally, an appeal was made by Manabendra Chakraborty, Chief Convener of the Action Committee to make the bandh a great success.

The rally went straight through the heart of the town raising loud slogans. A large number of women also participated in the rally. Gradually as the rally proceeded towards its destination, that is, National Highway point, more people joined the rally.

All throughout the rally appeal was made to make Barak bandh of 22 November a grand success. Manabendra Chakraborty, said that both the central and the state government has made a bouquet of promises to revive the two paper mills of Assam. But since then much water has flowed through Brahmaputra and Barak, but in reality nothing concrete has happened. He said that is has now become clear that the government is not at all sincere in revival of the mills.

Mr. Chakraborty highlighted the miserable plight of the employees of the mill who are leading their lives in utmost distress. He clarified that at this stage their remains no other democratic option of protest but to convene a bandh. It is in this backdrop that the committee has called for Barak bandh in demand of revival of paper mill on 22 November.

He further said that during ‘Namami Barak’, state Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assured that the problem of paper mill was his own problem and he will take immediate action so that the mill is revived. However, it was pointed out that, since then, one year has elapsed, but the Chief Minister till now has not taken any step and has rather broken his promise.

The 12-hour bandh has received support from the Congress, Jamiat, SUCI, CTVOA and a host of other organisations.
