Symposium on Indian Education System and it’s Relevance organised by Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal of Assam University

MArch 8: A symposium on Indian Education System and it’s Relevance was organised by Assam Visvavidyalya Samiti of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal in Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya (VKB), Borjalenga on 8th March. The programme was scheduled to take place in Bipin Chandra Milanayatan of the University. However, due to ongoing hunger strike by the research scholars forum, the progrmme was later on held at VKB, Borjalenga.

More than 300 scholars, teachers and students from Assam University, VKV Borjalenga and Pranabananda Vidyapith, Malinibeel participated in the programme. In his inaugural speech Prof. Niranjan Roy, Secretary of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal Assam Visvavidyalya Samiti highlighted the importance of Indian Education and it’s relevance in present day society.

Prof. Roy told that though the first University in the world was established in India but during the course of time the rich educational status of India declined to such an extent that even in the world ranking of Universities, there is no Indian University in the first 400 at present.

Swami Mrinmayananda ji Maharaj of Bharat Sevasram Sangha, Silchar was the guest of honour. He observed that values must be inculcated by parents and teachers. He has given more importance on India’s rich educational background mainly during the earlier period. He hoped that students will get educated in the true value and Indian culture.

Swami Sadhanandaji Maharaj of Bharat Sevasram Sangha, Guwahati was the chief guest in the event. He highlighted on importance and significance of Gurukul system in earlier period. He emphasized on the fact that students were imparted value education in Gurukul system. He also stressed on the fact that degradation of Indian education occurred due to irresponsible act of different stakeholders, mainly teachers and society at large.


Swamiji in his long deliberations provided various examples from Gita, Mahabharat and Ramayana on quality teaching, man making and character building.

He has also mention act of crualities even by so-called educated people. He stressed on the education which provide impetus for all round development of human kind and inculcate human values. He said, ” Society at large should raise spreading Indian Education and it’s value orientations.”

Dr. Pritwish Deshamukhya, President, BSM, Dakshin Assam prant, Sri Partha Pratim Dey, Principal, Pranabananda Vidyapith, Sefali Bharati, President Patanjali Yogapith also spoke on the occasion Since the day marked International Women’s day, the speakers congratulated all the women and girl childon during the occasion. Prof. N.B. Dey President BSM-AVVS, presided ove4 the meeting. He als9 stressed on the importance of Indian educati9n and it’s value orientations. Dr. Debotosh Chakraborty delivered the vote of thanks.

On this occasion, prize distribution of speech and art competition programme which was held on 2 October on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti by MG school of Economics and Commerce and BSM- AVVS were distributed by the speakers.
